Daila Ojeda has returned to her personal best with the redpoint of American Hustle 8c, in Contrafort de Rumbau, Oliana. The Canary Islander currently divides her time between Italy and Catalonia and chose American Hustle as her main project for the winter season.

It has been exactly ten years since Ojeda completed her first 8c route, and interestingly, it was also on the Rumbau wall. Daila completed Fish Eye, becoming the first woman to do so and the fourth Spaniard capable of completing this grade. In October 2010, she completed her second 8c, Aitzol, in Margalef, on the same day as Helena Alemán; and in December, she completed Full Equip 8c, again in Oliana.

Two years later, in February 2012, she managed to chain Mind Control, a route that was then considered 8c+, although the current agreed grade is 8c. Regarding these grades and her hardest routes, Daila admits that: “I don’t remember which was the last 8c I chained. Maybe Mind Control in 2012? I don’t know how many I’ve climbed in total either… surely not many, haha!”

«I think this is the hardest 8c I’ve ever done, in terms of strength and bouldering, even though it’s a 45-metre route.»

It was American Sam Elias who equipped American Hustle, and he himself made the first ascent in 2014. A 45-metre line of strength and endurance with which Daila Ojeda confirms her good form. The Canary Islander had not climbed in Oliana since 2013 and was motivated to try something difficult: “I chose it because at that grade in Oliana I didn’t have many other options. Years ago, I had tried another very good line, Joe Blau 8c+. Difficult for the grade, in my opinion.
